Hilsen Information

Hilsen Useful Terminology 2020

Hilsen Useful Terminology

‘Working at heights’ refers to frequently high-risk work that is undertaken in any place where, if the necessary safety precautions were not in place, a person could accidentally fall and suffer a personal injury.

Hilsen Using a Harness and Fall Arrest Lanyard 2020

Hilsen Using a Harness and Fall Arrest Lanyard

A fall arrest system is designed to arrest an accidental fall in a controlled way. There are different types of fall arrest systems including lifeline systems, retractable type fall arrestors, fall arrest lanyards and others. Using a harness and fall arrest lanyard as fall arrest system is quite common and also relatively cost effective. We explore the use of this fall arrest system here.

Hilsen Daily Equipment Inspection 2020

Hilsen Daily Equipment Inspection

The user (person preparing to use the equipment) should inspect the fall arrest system daily prior to use according to the following five point check. During the inspection, should they become aware of any fault or damage to a component of the fall arrest system, which fault or damage gives them reason to believe that the fall arrest system may not function optimally, the equipment must not be used. They should then also bring to the attention of management the evidence of the fault or damage so that immediate corrective action may be taken.

Hilsen Suspension Trauma 2020

Hilsen Suspension Trauma

Suspension trauma is a risk associated with the difficulties of being suspended in an industrial   safety harness. The effects are well documented with many studies done. The issue is essentially one of constricted blood flow through the groin  area (femoral artery) and the knock on physiological effects that will  follow.

Hilsen Manufacturer Support Services 2020

Hilsen Manufacturer Support Services

We recommend that the fall arrest system be periodically examined by a competent person for faults or damage that would render the system unsafe for use. Hilsen periodic inspection services include providing you with manufacturer accredited inspectors on site,as well as tracking of your equipment on our Hilsen Harness Control tracking database.
